13TH FEBRUARY 2018
On February 13 I was delighted to be invited to my home town of Mold, in North Wales, to be presented by the Chairman of Flintshire County Council, Brian Lloyd, who was accompanied by his wife, Jean. I received a rather lovely shield (see photo below) ‘in recognition of your achievements playing the harp and your contribution to classical music, and being from Flintshire’.
I owe a great deal of my success to those in Flintshire who believed in me when I was at Welsh speaking schools, Ysgol Glan’rafon and Ysgol Maes Garmon in the town of Mold.
I was extremely proud to come ‘home’ and to receive this unexpected accolade, and I hope I shall return to Mold and the area far more often in the future. The motto of my secondary school has stayed with me..
‘NI LWYDDIR HEB LAFUR’
(there is no success without labouring)
DIOLCH to the Chair of the Councillors, and also to Councillor Kevin Hughes who said
‘It’s not often we get the opportunity to honour people from Flintshire who have achieved so much’
On the shield are the Welsh words
‘GORAU TARIAN CYFIAWNDER’
(The best is the shield of justice)
