I am President of the UK Harp Association, and recently, there have been two noteworthy birthdays.
Meinir Heulyn, a Welsh harpist who has had a huge impact as a player and teacher, and also as a publisher of harp music, with her company ‘Alaw’. Meinir was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers from the UKHA to mark the occasion.
I have also been organizing a special gift for the iconic Dr Osian Ellis for his 90th birthday, and it will be presented to him at the Wales International Harp Festival at Easter. Photos to follow!
I contribute to the UKHA magazine, and in the recent issue, I interviewed Tara Minton. It was huge fun getting to know her better and finding out what her life is all about.
Tara Lee Minton wrote: Quite excited by this interview with Sioned Williams for the UK Harp Association. Massive thank you to the United Kingdom Harp Association and Sioned Williams for this wonderful feature in their latest magazine. I got the opportunity to tell my story (an odyssey indeed!) and celebrate the many brilliant friends and musicians who have joined me along the way. It’s rather thrilling to see one’s own face in a mag (see/read the entire interview on facebook)
As part of the archiving of important materials for the UKHA, we have been able to capture some interviews on video. I had a conversation with David Snell, the first jazz/popular harpist in the UK. What a treat that was! The interview is available on the UKHA youtube channel.
